Why do you scramble for the most prestigious seats like chickens after a grub? Aren’t you aware that a person more distinguished than you may have been invited? If so, the host who invited you both will come and say to you, ‘Give this man your seat.’ You will be humiliated and forced to take a less important, perhaps even the least important place in the seating arrangement.
But if you took the lowest place your host may say to you, ‘Move up to a better place.’ Then you will be honored in the presence of everyone.
If you exalt yourself you will soon be humbled. It is only a matter of time. If you humble yourself, you may well be exalted.
