"Those who have died in Christ will return with Jesus when he comes again."
Can you imagine the anticipation of the "saints" as they prepare to return with Jesus to earth? Excitement must come to the boiling point. After so many years, decades, centuries, even millennia -- so much time, which may, incidentally, seem like an instant for them, they are finally returning to the place where they were born, and with Jesus, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace.
The voice of an archangel will announce his coming and with the trumpet of God will sound.
Not a subtle event.
Awesome, encouraging event.
Martin Luther is said to have remarked, "If I knew Christ was coming tomorrow, I would go out and plant a tree."
I have resonated with this sentiment. No mountain tops and white robes for me. At the return of Jesus on this earth, if I am still alive, I want to be found doing what he put me here for.
But that doesn't mean we should not enjoy the thrilling anticipation of his return.
The mystery of trusting in God is great, but never in vain.
Prayer is an exercise in trust, quietly whispering to God, Even so, Come Lord Jesus!"
